Black Eyed Bean Sabji (Chauli Ki Sabji)

  • Black eyed beans (Soaked over night) 1 cup
  • Onion (finely chopped) 1 cup
  • Tomato (finely chopped) 1 cup
  • Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
  • Ginger garlic paste 2 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cooking oil 3 tablespoon
  • Fresh coriander leaves (finely chopped) 1/2 cup for garnishing
  • Salt to taste.


  1. Heat the oil in an pan add mustard seeds allow it to crackle, then add cumin seeds allow it to crackle.
  2. Then add finely chopped onion and fry till golden brown in color.
  3. Now add ginger garlic paste,coriander powder,and garam masala powder mix well.
  4. Then add tomatoes ,red chili powder,turmeric powder,salt to taste mix well, and cook covered on low flame until tomatoes become soft.
  5. Add little water if the mixture is too dry and mix well.
  6. Finely add soaked black eyed beans mix well ,cook covered until black eyed beans are tender.
  7. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
  8. Eat with chapati or plane rice and dal.
