Maindu Vada

Introduction:

Vada is a savoury snack from South India. It  can vary in shape and size, but are usually either doughnut- or disc-shaped and are about between 5 and 8 cm across. They are made from dal, lentil, gram flour or potato. Vada is a traditional South Indian food known from antiquity. Although they are commonly prepared at home, vadas are as well a typical street food in the Indian Subcontinent and SriLanka. They are usually a morning food, but in street stalls and in railway stations, as well as inside the Indian Railways, they are available as a snack all through the day.

Ingredients:

  • Uditdal 2 cups , rice garains 1/2 cup , chana dal  2 teaspoon (Soaked for 2hrs or over night)
  • Green chilies( finely chopped) 5 to 6
  • Coriander leaves,(finely chopped)  1/2 cup
  • Bicarbonate of soda 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste

Procedure:

  1. Grind the above ingredients ( uditdal,rice ,and chana dal mixture green chili and salt ) in a blender or a food processor without adding water and set aside.
  2. Remove the batter in a vessel add finely chopped coriander leaves and Bicarbonate of soda  mix well.
  3. Make a round shape with your hands & make a hole at the center with the help of little water or u can also put vada mixture in vada maker.
  4. Drop the vada into the oil.
  5. Deep fry them in hot oil until they are golden brown. The whole recipe will take about 20 minutes.
  6. Serve with Coconut chutney or tomato sauce.
  7. Enjoy as morning breakfast or as evening snack.
