Chonge /Sweet Puri

Introduction:

Chonge are sweet puris filled with grated jaggery, grated coconut , dry fruits ,poppy seeds and  desi ghee. It is sweet delicacy enjoyed with lots of desi ghee and yogurt. It’s predominantly prepared in Muslim communities during month of Muharram. This traditional Chonge recipe has been brought to you straight from my kitchen.

  • Preparation  Time: 20 minutes

  • Servings: 4 people

Ingredients:

How to knead dough:

  1. Take a large wide plate.
  2. Add required amount of wheat flour.
  3. Add salt to taste, and mix it well.
  4. Knead  the dough by adding required amount of water.
  5. Once the dough is ready apply some oil and knead for few minutes.
  6. Allow the dough to rest for about 10-15 minutes.

How to make rotis & spiral pattern :

 

  1. Divide the dough in to sizable chunks.
  2. Take one piece of dough dip in flour and start rolling the rotis with rolling pin and set aside.
  3. Roll the rotis same way and set aside.
  4. Make sure arotis should be thick.
  5. Now heat the pan.
  6. Grease a pan with ghee and add roti and roast till its done evenly on both side.
  7. Now remove the roti from pan and start making the spiral pattern when they are hot
  8. Roast all the rotis same way and immediately make spiral pattern in each roti before they get cold & set aside.

Filling:

 

  1. Take the roti in a plate, fill grated jaggery then grated coconut followed by sliced dry fruits and finally add ghee.
  2. Place the next roti on top of the filled chonge and fill it same way (grated jaggery, grated coconut, dry fruits  ghee and you can also add poppy seeds.
  3. Stalk all the chonge on top of each other.

  1. Set aside for some time.
  2. Chonge is ready to eat serve with melted ghee.
  3. Enjoy.
